Availability
Two formats. Rolling and cohort-based schedules.
The program runs as either a fixed-start cohort or a self-paced track, with regional practice sessions offered in select US cities as scheduling allows. Availability shifts by season, so details below describe how each format works rather than guaranteeing a specific open seat.
Formats
Choose the structure that fits your week.
Cohort Track
Fixed start date. Students move through modules together and are placed into a peer feedback group for the full session. Weekly assignments and feedback deadlines follow a shared calendar.
- Set start and end dates
- Consistent feedback group of 4 to 6 peers
- Weekly check-in from an instructor
Self-Paced Track
Open enrollment with no fixed start date. Modules and assignments are the same, but timing is flexible and feedback groups form on a rolling basis as students reach each module.
- Start anytime
- Flexible weekly pace
- Feedback groups formed on rolling basis
Weekly Commitment
Plan for roughly two to four hours a week.
Assignment released
New weekly brief and reference material become available to review.
Shooting window
Students shoot on their own schedule, typically 45 to 90 minutes across the week.
Submission deadline
Selected frames are submitted into the peer feedback group along with brief shooting notes.
Feedback due
Peer feedback is completed before the next assignment opens on Monday.
Regional Practice Sessions
Optional in-person meetups, where scheduling allows.
In addition to the online curriculum, informal regional practice sessions are sometimes organized in cities including Atlanta, Denver, Austin, Chicago and Seattle. These sessions are optional, do not replace any required coursework, and are scheduled separately based on regional interest and instructor availability. Students outside these areas complete the full program online without any disadvantage to their progress or feedback access.
Do I need a specific camera to start?
No. Assignments are written to work with any camera or smartphone that allows some manual control over exposure. A specific brand or sensor size is never required.
What happens if I miss a weekly deadline?
Self-paced students can simply continue when ready. Cohort students are encouraged to submit late work into the following week's feedback cycle rather than skip a module entirely.
Is a certificate issued after completion?
The program does not issue a professional certification or license. It is designed to build practical creative skills, not to meet industry credentialing requirements.
How are feedback groups assigned?
Groups are formed by module start date and kept small, generally four to six students, so peer feedback stays consistent and specific across the session.
